One day a hard-working woman awoke and opened her eyes to find she was laying in complete darkness in a small box where she could barely move. In terror, she screamed and pushed open the box lid only inches away from her face. The lid easily opened, and in the light, she realized she was lying in a coffin! As she started to get out of the coffin, she quickly realized, this was no ordinary coffin. This coffin was lined with a soft and comfortable velvet interior. She paused for a moment and felt the plush interior. The soft velvet felt so inviting and even appeared to call out her name and told her to relax and stay awhile. The sense of fear vanished and she decided to lay back down for a while.
Time passed. Days, weeks and even years went by while she remained in the velvet coffin. She began to realize that the velvet coffin was slowly sucking the life out of her.Frequently she thought about getting up and leaving the comfortable coffin, but somehow she would persuade herself to lay back down. Although she knew with every passing day that more of her life had been leached out of her, this velvet coffin provided her with just enough comfort to keep her prisoner.
Although she knew that at any given time she could open the coffin and get out, she somehow convinced herself that this was no longer an option. At times, she would even shut the lid on the coffin in the attempt to temporarily forget that she was trading her life for the comfort of the coffin. She allowed the coffin to control her because she feared leaving the comfortable interior of her death box.
Did the coffin leech every ounce of life until she died or did she finally decide to get up and walk away? You tell me. What is your velvet coffin? What would you do?
